Idafehn Mill also tells the story of the area. It was built in 1891 and rebuilt by the municipality of Ostrhauderfehn in the Idafehn district. It was completed in 2001 as a gallery Dutch mill with a granary. Together with the church, it adds another cultural and historical dimension, though with a different building history: here, the focus is on its construction in 1891 and its later reconstruction.
Circular route or longer moorland experience route
The well-signposted Wiekentour is a 29 km circular cycling route along Ostrhauderfehn’s dead-straight Fehn canals. It passes St. Peter’s Church, Idafehn Mill, white drawbridges and Idasee before continuing into the moorland. The route can be explored by bike, on foot or by car. If you would prefer to take in several towns across the area, consider the Moorerlebnisroute: it is around 100 km long and connects Ostrhauderfehn, Rhauderfehn, Barßel, Saterland and Esterwegen.
