Warberg: Circular hike and local history
Warberg combines a circular hike with traces of its local history. The Elm circular trail RW34 starts at Warberg Castle and leads on a circular hike to the site of the original castle. At Old Warberg Castle, an information board provides comprehensive information about the site. Here, a clearly described trail meets a specific place for exploring history.

Place names also tell stories of past uses. The name Hopfengraben recalls that hops were once grown there for the brewery in Warberg. There is a small pond at Güldenspring; the hike then continues along the Schlangenweg on the Elm circular trail. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Warberg, you can use these local themes as a selection criterion: are you more drawn to the loop to the original castle site, or to the traces of history conveyed by the name and information board? This brings Warberg into focus as a destination in its own right.

Königslutter: Romanesque architecture and musical instruments
In Königslutter, the Imperial Cathedral is one of Lower Saxony’s most impressive Romanesque buildings. Together with the cloister and the Kaiser-Lothar-Linde on the former monastery grounds, it is a much-visited attraction. At the Museum of Mechanical Musical Instruments, guided tours explain the instruments; nearly all are in working order and ready to be demonstrated. Architecture and music thus offer different cultural highlights. The Geopark Information Centre also provides extensive tourism information and services for the Braunschweiger Land Geopark, the Elm-Lappwald Nature Park and the city of Königslutter.
Helmstedt: University and architectural history
The Juleum Novum in Helmstedt, the auditorium of the former university, was built from 1592 to 1597 as a palatial Renaissance building. The climb up the Juleum Tower involves 153 steps and takes place from April to October on the first Saturday of each month, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Check the current dates before your visit. The District and University Museum in the Juleum displays a model of the city around 1750 and original objects from the university era, including an astronomical disc, a globe and tableware from the university canteen. An architecture tour of Helmstedt presents 1,000 years of architectural history, from the Romanesque period to Historicism.
Schöningen: Archaeology and trail experience
At the Schöningen Research Museum, you can see the Schöningen spears close to where they were found. They were left there around 300,000 years ago and discovered in 1994; excavations are still taking place at the site today. The Schöningen Experience Trail runs for 2.5 kilometres from Burgplatz to the Research Museum and has eight stations with large information boards. The two routes have different focuses: in Warberg, RW34 is a circular hike to the site of the original castle; in Schöningen, the Experience Trail runs from Burgplatz to the museum, with stops along the way.
