Discover the Elbe-Weser Triangle

Water, tidal flats, marshland, moors and geest give the Elbe-Weser Triangle its distinctive character. There are also more than 100 museums and museum collections, the historic Moorexpress and striking structures such as the Hemmoor transporter bridge. This lets you choose whether to focus your stay on landscapes, culture or excursions.

A region between the Elbe and Weser

The Elbe-Weser Triangle stretches from Cuxhaven in the north to Verden in the south, and from Bremerhaven in the west to Buxtehude in the east. This gives you a way to think of the region as a larger holiday destination and take your own interests into account when choosing a holiday apartment. The NORDPFAD Hinzel trail leads through dense coniferous forest; the Hinzel woodland is a protected landscape area. Travelling on the Moorexpress

The historic Moorexpress stops at more than 20 stations. From there, you can visit places of interest and get to know the region. As an excursion train, it offers a variety of impressions, from the artists’ village of Worpswede to moorland, geest and the historic Hanseatic town of Stade. This makes it possible to plan a trip that is not focused on just one place.

There is also a special feature for bringing a bicycle: the Moorexpress has an additional bicycle carriage with space for 25 bicycles. If you would like to include train and cycling experiences in your trip, this capacity is a useful point of reference. The number refers to the spaces in the bicycle carriage; it does not describe the size of a group or the duration of an excursion.

Art and history in Worpswede and Zeven

Worpswede became an artists’ colony in 1889 and now has six museums. Guided walks trace the town’s development from an agricultural village in the Teufelsmoor to an artists’ colony. They include a group visit to an art exhibition in a museum. This combines local history with a specific art experience and is one way to discover Worpswede not only through its number of museums but also through its history.

Several historical features come together in Zeven: the Kloster Zeven Museum is the last surviving building of the medieval monastery complex and is next to the former Romanesque abbey church of St. Viti. The museum displays a 500-year-old coin hoard from Heeslingen. St. Viti Church was built between 1141 and around 1158 in the Romanesque style, with a cruciform floor plan. Zeven therefore offers a range of points of interest for anyone interested in cultural history—from the surviving monastery building and the coin hoard to the church.

Another art destination is the Queen Christine House, which is now home to the Municipal Gallery, with changing art exhibitions. Together with Worpswede and Zeven, it adds further specific places to discover art and history to the region’s many museums and collections.

Nature and swimming as additional trip ideas

The Natureum Niederelbe presents interactive exhibitions in two buildings and in Elbe Coastal Park. Its offering therefore includes both exhibition spaces and a park. If you are interested in nature, you can make this a separate item on your itinerary alongside the landscapes of the moors, tidal flats and geest.

For a different kind of change of pace, Aquafit Zeven has five swimming and leisure pools as well as a sauna area. So, alongside walks, museums and excursions, swimming and sauna visits are also possible themes for your holiday.
