The nave of St. Marien is 24.45 metres long and 9.84 metres wide. Its ceiling is designed as a segmental barrel vault—a barrel-shaped form with a segmental-arch cross-section. Three stained-glass windows in the east gable depict Pentecost, the Last Supper and home. The measurements, ceiling design and window motifs each offer a different insight into the church’s design.
The tower and interior also tell of different building phases: the church tower took on its present form in 1971, is 23 metres high and houses four bells. The interior of St. Marien underwent extensive renovations in 1960 and 2004. The church thus brings together architectural details and several periods in its building history.
Nature Watching and History Along the Oste
At the Oste loop near Laumühlen, visitors can observe local flora and fauna from an observation tower. Laumühlen is a district of Hechthausen, located between Lamstedt and Hechthausen. The Historic Oste Dyke Route offers a different perspective on the Oste: it runs from Belum to Hechthausen and can be explored by car, bicycle or on foot. Along the Oste, more than 65 stops with texts, historical photos and information boards present the history of the Oste villages. Geestsee Swimming and Fishing Lake
Geestsee is located in Hechthausen-Klint. Visitors can snorkel and dive there; the sandy beach is a place to swim, sunbathe or build a sandcastle. There is also a separate swimming area for visitors with dogs. The lake offers a different kind of vacation from the church and the Oste: a stay by the water, with activities in and around the lake.
