Discover Tannenhausen
Accommodation in Tannenhausen
Tannenhausen combines water-based activities, remarkable traces of the past and varied paths through the East Frisian landscape. At the bathing lake, swimming, water sports and relaxation take center stage, while the Tannenhausen megalithic tomb offers a glimpse far back into history.
Tannenhausen bathing lake: Water, beach and a variety of activities
Tannenhausen bathing lake has a white sandy beach that slopes gently into the lake. The recreational area around the lake also features a wakeboarding facility with an aquapark, pedal boat and SUP rentals, beach volleyball, a playground, beach chairs and a circular hiking trail. This makes it possible to combine quieter hours on the beach with more active pursuits, so not every day of your holiday has to look the same.
The floating aquapark offers diving platforms up to 3.50 meters high, climbing towers, slides and a water trampoline. Those interested in wakeboarding will also find the NORTH BOUND Aurich Beach & Wake facility in Tannenhausen, which is approximately 650 meters long. Dogs also have their own bathing area at the lake: It has a gently sloping sandy beach, is fully fenced and can be reached via its own entrance.
Horse-riding interests can also be combined with the area. Numerous bridleways lead into the East Frisian countryside from the “Kleine Mücke” riding stable, located directly at the bathing lake. These different options can help with holiday planning: While some travelers may choose the lake as their main focus, others can combine swimming, horse riding and walks.
Cycling routes and information about the landscape
Anyone wishing to explore Tannenhausen by bicycle can include the 42-kilometer northern route of the Aurich Circular Tour in their plans. A shorter alternative, based on the stated route length, is the 32-kilometer “Ewiges Meer Route” cycling circuit, which also passes through the Aurich district of Tannenhausen. The information points along this route provide interesting facts about rare plant and animal species as well as the former lives of the inhabitants of the former raised-bog landscape. The historical information also makes the cycling tour an encounter with the history of the landscape.
Megalithic tomb and historical insights
The megalithic tomb on Am Hünengrab is an approximately 5,000-year-old tomb from the Funnel Beaker culture. This early farming culture began around 4000 BC. The city of Aurich reconstructed the tomb in 2014, installed information boards and opened it to the public. In the front section, visitors can view the reconstruction of the eastern of the two burial chambers. The three original boulders are popularly known as “Butter, Bread and Cheese” or “Botter, Brood und Kääs.”
An additional historical perspective is provided by the information board at the Aurich-Tannenhausen war graves cemetery. It provides information about the prisoner-of-war camp in Tannenhausen, the situation of Soviet prisoners of war and the historical background. The board is presented bilingually. The nearby Aurich Historical Museum also displays a selection of the finds and a model of the tomb complex from the Tannenhausen megalithic tomb.
When looking for accommodation in Tannenhausen, it is therefore worth considering the daily rhythm you prefer. A holiday apartment or holiday home may be appealing if you want to organize your days yourself and combine different experiences.
