Culture
The foundation stone of the church was laid in 1950; construction was completed in 1952, and the church was consecrated. It was designed by the architect Bolte from Kassel, while the local painter Degenhardt was responsible for the interior design.
Architecturally, it is a simple hall church with five segmental-arched window bays, corner detailing made of greywacke, and a distinctive west tower built entirely of greywacke. For historical reasons, the church is listed as a cultural monument in the Hessian monument register.
The historic town hall in nearby Bromskirchen was built between 1619 and 1621. The building features ornamental wood carvings on its half-timbering, created by master carpenter Daniel Dornseif from Somplar.
In the wider Allendorf (Eder) area, the Linspher cycling and hiking route runs separately from motorised traffic. It passes through a tunnel and by a viaduct, then continues through fields and forests, along rivers, over bridges, and through valleys.
The surrounding area of Somplar includes Reckenberg, Großer Hoher Stein, Heidkopf, Steinschab, and Hundsrücken. The former Wolkersdorf Castle is also located in the surrounding area.
Aulesburg and Riesenstuhl are located in the wider regional surroundings of Somplar.
