Culture

Idstein's original castle was built around 1170 on a rocky ridge in the center of the old town. The preserved parts include the keep, the former district court, the gatehouse dating from the 15th century, and the palace.

The castle developed from a hilltop castle that served as the residence of the Counts of Nassau-Idstein. Its Witches' Tower is one of the oldest buildings in the town and is a landmark of the town.
