History

Kloster Lehnin has a well-preserved complex belonging to the first Cistercian monastery in the Margraviate of Brandenburg, which was founded in 1180 by Margrave Otto I.

Historically, Kloster Lehnin served as the house monastery and burial place of the Ascanian and Hohenzollern dynasties and was of great ecclesiastical, economic and political significance.
