Immenreuth: Hiking Trails, Views and Christ Church

A circular trail suitable for pushchairs

The Hundeschule Immenreuth Relaxation Hiking Trail is 5.7 kilometres long, accessible and family-friendly; it is also suitable for pushchairs. The loop starts at the dog training ground and heads towards Ziegelhütte through the centre of Immenreuth. After passing the solar farm, it leads back to the dog training ground. Tannenberg Trail: Landmarks and views

The Tannenberg Trail is a circular hiking route that starts and ends on Bahnhofstraße in Immenreuth, by the Raiffeisen warehouse. From the Raiffeisen warehouse, it heads towards Plößberg; at the Zweifelau town sign, the trail turns left. At a wayside cross in Zweifelau, it turns left again, descends to the Flötzbach and crosses a narrow footbridge to the Immenreuth–Ahornberg local road. On the north side of Tannenberg, the forest opens up. From there, the view stretches across the Schilmbach Valley to Klausenberg and over to Flötzrangen. The start and end point and the turn-offs at Zweifelau provide clear reference points for navigating this loop.

More trails and the surrounding area

The Gabellohe Trail starts at the Raiffeisen warehouse and heads towards Plößberg. There are ponds alongside the railway line; the trail passes the holiday centre and campsite and reaches the Großer Hirschbergweiher. By contrast, the Tannenberg Trail’s described route features the Flötzbach section and views from the north side of Tannenberg. The two routes therefore differ in their named landmarks and landscape features.

The Flötztal Trail starts at the hiking car park between Ahornberg and Hölzlmühle in Immenreuth. It is rated an easy route and covers 15.3 kilometres, taking 4 hours 50 minutes and gaining 370 metres in elevation. Compared with the 5.7-kilometre Relaxation Hiking Trail, it is longer; its duration and elevation gain are also specified. This makes the difference between the two route profiles clear without assuming a walking time for the shorter loop.

The area around Großer Hirschbergweiher and Haidweiher, near Immenreuth, is a bird sanctuary. Also nearby, on the Flötzbach, is Rotenfels, a rock formation pierced by a tunnel-like opening. Iron was mined beneath the rock in the Middle Ages. The pond landscape and a rock formation with a history of human use offer different natural highlights in the area around the destination.

Christ Church and culture in Tirschenreuth

Christ Church in Immenreuth was built in 1966 and is characterised by its freestanding bell tower. Currently, outdoor family services are held there on Easter Monday and Christmas Eve. As dates may change, check the current times before planning a visit.

In the wider destination of Tirschenreuth, the MuseumsQuartier combines the Upper Palatinate Fisheries Museum with six other specialist exhibitions in a former monastery. Visitors can explore almost 1,000 years of fishing and fish-farming history and see native fish in four large aquariums. In Fischhof Park in Tirschenreuth, the historic Fischhof Bridge and the Fischhof, which houses the district court, are located in the centre.

The culinary connections are also rooted in the district of Tirschenreuth: it is especially known for Zoigl, the traditional beer of the Upper Palatinate Forest. The district is also home to carp from the pond landscapes of the “Land of 1,000 Ponds”. These themes complement Immenreuth’s hiking and cultural attractions with a distinctly regional perspective on Tirschenreuth.
