Valley combines organ culture and architectural history with the landscape along the Mangfall and a range of ways to enjoy active days. The Organ Centre in the Old Castle, the sculptures in Hohendilching and walks along the river each offer a different focus. Golf, cross-country skiing and activities at the castle brewery are also among the things you can consider when planning your holiday.

The Organ Centre and architectural history in the Old Castle

The Organ Centre in Valley’s Old Castle is regarded as the world’s largest organ museum. Its collection includes more than 60 organs, 24 of which can be played. Guided tours of the historic rooms give visitors insight into the organ’s significance in world history and the chance to learn about organ technology. If you plan to visit the museum, check in advance when guided tours are offered.

The Old Castle is also a venue for recurring cultural and musical events. It houses the oldest secular building in Miesbach district and one of Bavaria’s oldest courthouses. From the High Middle Ages until 1848, this building served continuously as the court and administrative office of the county. The site’s history therefore extends far beyond its present-day use as an organ museum.

The complex also includes Zollinger Hall. It served as a sawmill building from 1923 to 1999, was moved to Valley’s Old Castle in 2001 and has served as the organ museum’s music and events hall since 2003. It offers a glimpse into another, more recent chapter of Valley’s architectural history.

The Mangfall landscape and art in Hohendilching

The Mangfall winds through Valley’s landscape, described as unspoilt and natural, in the Munich Gravel Plain. Relaxing walking routes follow the river, passing mills and unspoilt nature. This combines exercise with views of the riverside landscape, without requiring the day to revolve solely around a museum or event.

The SKULPTUR-LICHTUNG in Hohendilching, Valley, offers a different cultural highlight: more than 20 monolithic stone sculptures by sculptors from around the world are on display there. This gives you a choice of different interests to focus on: historic rooms and organ technology, art in the landscape, or a walk along the Mangfall.

Golf, cross-country skiing and brewery culture

Golf Valley offers a 27-hole championship course set amid the Upper Bavarian landscape. Its training facilities include a spacious driving range.

Valley also has cross-country ski trails with views of the nearby mountains. As no opening times or snow conditions are specified, it is advisable to check conditions before setting off. The castle brewery regularly offers brewery tours and beer seminars. This lets you weigh up a day outdoors, a round on the golf course and an insight into brewery culture, without having to fit all the activities into a single day of your stay.

Train stations and choosing a location

Two train station locations in Valley are relevant for travelling by rail. In the district of Kreuzstraße, there is a station on the Mangfall Valley Railway. There is a second station in the district of Darching, served hourly by the Bayerische Oberlandbahn on the Holzkirchen–Bayrischzell route. Check the current timetable before travelling. If rail travel is important to your trip, the two locations may be a practical consideration when looking for a holiday apartment. The location that suits you depends on which line you want to use and which activities in Valley interest you.
