Grafenrheinfeld: Alluvial forest, natural swimming area and culture
Accommodation in Grafenrheinfeld
Grafenrheinfeld offers several distinct themes for a stay: alluvial forest and a natural swimming area, a striking church, wayside shrines and events. Your interests can help guide your choice of holiday apartment: Would you like to experience nature, explore local history or plan cultural activities? Each of the following places has its own character, so you can shape your stay around the outings you prefer.
Nature between alluvial forest and water
The Elmuß nature reserve lies in the south of the Grafenrheinfeld municipal area, on the western edge of Röthlein. The Unkenbach stream flows through the alluvial forest, shaping the distinctive landscape of this protected area. The “Sauerstücksee and Hirtenbachaue” nature reserve covers 35 hectares and is home to an exceptionally wide variety of endangered bird and animal species. The 34-hectare “Altmainschleife Nord” recreation area in Grafenrheinfeld includes a natural swimming area.
When planning your day, it is worth noting the different purposes of these places: Elmuß and Sauerstücksee and Hirtenbachaue are nature reserves, while Altmainschleife Nord is a recreation area with a natural swimming area. This lets you weigh up protected landscapes and the recreational appeal of the area as different themes for your stay.
Walking trail and traces of local history
The 10 km-long wayside shrine trail passes historical buildings and wayside shrines. The starting point is on Wehrspitzweg, by the field chapel.
The project was completed in June 2026 with six information panels in the Grafenrheinfeld district. The panels provide information about historical field names, wayside shrines and roadside crosses. Maps briefly explain the field names and show the locations of the wayside shrines and roadside crosses. The panels also give visitors the opportunity to discover the landscape and its history in a new way.
Church, music and cultural offerings
At the heart of the town stands the twin-towered Catholic parish church of the Finding of the Cross, which defines Grafenrheinfeld’s character. It is distinguished by its religious treasures and special architecture, both inside and out. The Winterhalter organ in the parish church can be heard in the “Musica Sacra” concert series.
The Kulturhalle hosts concerts, cabaret and variety shows. If you have a particular evening in mind, check the latest event listings. Tours of the treasury and other sights can be arranged by prior appointment; please coordinate the date with the municipality in advance.
The municipal library has been in existence since 1985 and holds 25,000 media items. As a public library, it is open to all users, regardless of where they live. It is open for 30 hours a week; check the current opening hours before your visit.
