Schäftlarn Abbey was founded around 762.
Hohenschäftlarn was first recorded in 778.
The Schäftlarn monastery complex was last rebuilt between 1702 and 1760, while the historic Church of St. George in Hohenschäftlarn was last rebuilt in 1729/30.
Today’s municipality of Schäftlarn includes three churches.
Landscape
Nearby is the Birg, a prehistoric fortified site above the steep Isar slope. It was expanded to a considerable size between the 8th and 10th centuries AD.
