The Franconian Open-Air Museum in Fladungen brings 350 years of rural everyday life in Lower Franconia and the Rhön to life through faithfully reconstructed houses and farmsteads. The 12-hectare museum grounds contain around 30 historic buildings, including farmhouses, craft buildings and a village school. Hands-on activities relating to crafts and traditions include demonstrations, practical courses and events.
The Rhön-Zügle museum railway offers a different perspective on the region: it travels through the Streutal valley with steam and diesel locomotives. The train ride and the historic buildings of the open-air museum offer different ways to enjoy a culture-focused stay.
The fortified church of Ostheim vor der Rhön was declared a monument of national importance in 2003. It is Germany’s largest and one of its best-preserved fortified churches.
