Hiking Trails and Themes at Johann-Ehrl-Platz

The Art Hiking Trail, Mill Hiking Trail, Biblical Orchard Hiking Trail and Franz-Xaver-Staudigl Hiking Trail all start at Johann-Ehrl-Platz in Beratzhausen. The themed hiking trails are signposted. Their information boards include, among other things, poems and descriptions of individual stops. A central board in the square provides advance information about trail lengths, places to stop for refreshments along the routes and other useful details. This lets you get your bearings before setting off and consider the different themes of the trails.

The Mill Hiking Trail leads from Beratzhausen towards Laaber, passing five mills. Themed boards featuring short texts by Erich Niebler provide information about notable attractions from the history of the Laber Valley. The Franz-Xaver-Staudigl Hiking Trail is named after a former mayor and local poet. Together, the mill stops and information boards offer a concrete glimpse into local and regional history; the other trails have their own distinct themes, hinted at in their names.

The Stations of the Cross: Exercise and Contemplation

A report dated 25 March 2026 places the construction of the Stations of the Cross leading to the Maria-Hilf pilgrimage church in Beratzhausen in 1875/76. The report describes the original route through the forest as both a challenging trail for joggers and hikers and a place for prayer and meditation. Whether you are interested in history, exercise or a quieter experience, you will encounter different meanings of the same path here.

Rocky Landscapes and Winter Activities in the Municipality

Beratzhausen’s outdoor swimming pool lies southeast of the main town, between the R 11 and the St 2394, amid a rocky landscape. A pedestrian tunnel beneath the R 11 provides access to the skate park below the swimming pool. The terrain makes tobogganing possible on many slopes throughout the municipality.

At Schlossberg near Haderlsdorf, there is a small local ski lift with floodlighting. Check whether the lift is currently operating before making specific plans. The municipality offers a range of settings to compare for your excursions: the rocky landscape by the swimming pool, the skate park below it and slopes where tobogganing is possible.

Orchard Experience Trail and Regional Excursions

Within the wider Regensburg destination, the signposted Orchard Experience Trail is a cycling route of around 34 kilometres from Hemau via Beratzhausen to Kallmünz; twelve large information boards stand along the route. Six shorter circular walking routes add to the options within the municipality. Starting at large information boards, they share stories and facts about historic crops. This gives you two different scales to choose from: the longer cycling route and the shorter circular walks.

More Culture and Garden Attractions in the Regensburg Destination

Walhalla is a major neoclassical building in Germany, with a Doric exterior featuring 52 columns. Since 1842, this memorial and hall of honour has commemorated notable Germans and people connected with German history through marble busts and plaques. The Nepal-Himalaya Park in Wiesent offers a very different focus: across nine hectares, it brings together Asian culture and nature, with a Nepalese temple, a diverse perennial garden and numerous Asian artworks. The grounds include a Himalayan garden and a Chinese garden, as well as more than 6,200 different plant species.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Beratzhausen, let your excursion plans guide your choice: do you want to spend your vacation days mainly exploring the themed trails and landscapes within the municipality, or would you also like to include separate cultural and garden attractions in the wider Regensburg destination?
