The parish church of St. Oswald was completely rebuilt in 1827 after the older church had to be demolished because it was in disrepair. The church contains ceiling paintings by Nikolaus Augner of Schongau, created in 1825: the Last Supper is depicted in the choir, and Saint Oswald as an intercessor in the nave. The building’s history and the paintings offer different ways to explore the municipality’s church culture.

In the parish church of St. Stephen, some figures on the high altar and the two side altars are by Anton Sturm of Füssen. Traditions Throughout the Year

The Eligius Ride takes place every year on the first Sunday of Advent. After the horses are blessed at the parish church, the procession passes through the village and by the St. Eligius Chapel. Its occasion and route give the custom a clear connection to the village and the Advent season. Burggen also brings its preserved rural cultural heritage to life at the Rosstag, held every three years. Both traditions are distinct events in village life; the Rosstag takes place less often than the annual Eligius Ride.
