The Amper floodplains between Esting, Olching and Geiselbullach are a valuable recreational area. Floodplain forests and wet meadows shape the landscape; small paths away from the roads, numerous benches and gently sloping riverbanks invite you to walk and relax. If you enjoy spending time outdoors during your stay, you’ll find a different kind of outing here than among the town’s cultural offerings. The gently sloping riverbanks and small paths are specific ways to experience the nature of the floodplains.

A fitness trail runs for around 2.5 kilometres along the Amper through the Olching floodplain forest. Exercise equipment is available at twelve stations. The route length and number of stations provide clear guidance for planning your day, without requiring you to estimate how long the walk will take. The trail adds an active element to this natural area.

Olching Bird Park is located on a site covering almost 20,000 square metres in the Amper floodplains. Around 500 birds from all over the world can be seen there in aviaries, pavilions, pond areas and open enclosures. The different facilities make the park a destination in its own right for anyone interested in birds. The floodplain forests and paths offer another way to spend time outdoors.

Lake Olching is another of the town’s nature and recreation spots. It is a swimming lake visited by many bathers in summer, with a water surface of around 14 hectares. If being near the water is important to your holiday plans, you can make the lake a separate focus for an outing. The Grünanger in Schwaigfeld, meanwhile, is a large park with mature trees, football pitches and playgrounds. There is also a sledding hill and a stream where children are allowed to play. In summer, an event area is used for events including an open-air concert and a running event.

Cycling route, town life and culture

The Ammer-Amper Cycle Route passes through Olching. The route runs either via Emmering to Fürstenfeldbruck or all the way to Dachau. This gives you a choice of different destinations for a bike ride. Olching can be part of a cycling trip or serve as a starting point for an outing along one section of the route; no specific route distances are given here.

The Kulturwerkstatt am Olchinger Mühlbach, or KOM for short, is run by the town. It hosts cultural events and also serves as a meeting place for young and old, as well as a gathering place for clubs and initiatives. More than 25 cultural events organised by the town of Olching are held there each year. St Peter and Paul Church and Geiselbullach Castle are also part of Olching’s cultural and historical heritage. The new St Peter and Paul Church was consecrated on 22 September 1901. Geiselbullach Castle, with its park and St Nepomuk Chapel, was built in 1726 by Johann Adam Geisler. These sites complement contemporary cultural events with historic buildings that you can discover as you explore the town.

A regular highlight in the events calendar is the annual Olching Folk Festival. It begins on the first Friday of the Whitsun school holidays and lasts ten days. The extensive programme at the central festival grounds includes numerous rides, fairground attractions and culinary specialities. The dates are especially relevant when planning your trip if you’d like to time your stay to coincide with the festival.

Other leisure activities include the Olching Golf Club, with an 18-hole championship course and a short-game area. Both facilities were completely renovated and modernised in 2012/2013. Olching also has two miniature golf courses: the Olchinger Minigolf Sport Klub e.V. at Feursstraße 91 and the Minigolf-Park by Lake Olching at Ulmenweg 6. So alongside nature, cycling and culture, there are also specific opportunities to play golf and miniature golf.
