On foot: the family trail and circular trails
The family trail is specifically designed to be child-friendly and combines town life and nature. It starts at the observation tower on Färberanger and is 2.3 kilometres long. This gives families in Vilsbiburg a trail where children and adults can enjoy the outdoors together.
The circular trails also vary in their starting points and lengths. The Western Circular Trail starts at the sports hall on Urbanstraße and is 3.8 kilometres long. The Northern Circular Trail starts at the town square and is 5.8 kilometres long. The Southern Circular Trail starts at the Färberanger car park and is 5.9 kilometres long.
The Eastern Circular Trail is 6.7 kilometres long and starts at St. Martin Kindergarten. The 5.4-kilometre Sculpture Trail also starts there. If you are planning a longer route, the 7.3-kilometre Climate Trail starts at the Färberanger car park. These details make it possible to compare the trails by length and starting point, without making assumptions about walking times or trail conditions.
Discover history, crafts and art
The history trail connects 14 historic buildings dating from past centuries. It starts at the local history museum on the town square and is 3.1 kilometres long. This lets you combine a walk through Vilsbiburg with a focus on history. The local history museum also features a special collection of products from the widely renowned Kröning pottery craft.
The museum has around 1,000 m² of exhibition space, and special exhibitions change each year.
Public art also has its own history in Vilsbiburg: the Kulturforum Vilsbiburg e. V. organised four artist symposia with the town in 2011, 2013, 2016 and 2018. Twelve artworks were created as a result and installed at various locations around Vilsbiburg town centre, where they have since enriched the public realm. Visitors interested in art can discover these works as a distinctive aspect of the town.
By bike and by train
Vilsbiburg Christ Church is on the Vilstal cycle path and offers cyclists a place to take a break and stop in. The cycling church at Christ Church offers water, toilets, a place to pump up bicycle tyres and an opportunity for quiet reflection. It is a convenient place to stop on a cycling tour. Christ Church is also home to the stained-glass window “I Am the Way” by Marlene Reidel, created in 1956.
