Pilgrimage and routes around Maria Vesperbild

Maria Vesperbild is a district of Ziemetshausen. From the pilgrimage church, a Way of the Cross leads through a light beech forest to the Fatima Grotto north of Seyfriedsberg Castle. The western route of the Bavarian-Swabian Way of St. James also passes by the church. These two connections give the area a clear focus on pilgrimage: the Way of the Cross leads to the grotto, while the church is also part of a named pilgrimage route.

Weaving, workshops and domestic culture

The museums in Ziemetshausen showcase different aspects of craftsmanship. At the Gebr. Stegmann Weaving Museum, you can follow the process from flaxseed processing to flax yarn, as well as explore the stages of weaving. The objects on display include mechanical looms, handlooms for rag rugs, fabrics, fabric sample books and parts of a shop interior. You can see individual stages of the work alongside equipment and materials associated with weaving.

The Stegmann House adds a glimpse of domestic culture around 1900. On display are an original textile and haberdashery shop interior, an old kitchen, a living room, a bedroom and a shoemaker’s workshop. The “Bei d’ Hölzerne” Crafts Museum focuses on planing, woodturning and sawing. The collection also includes woodworking tools, as well as machines and tools from a former carpentry workshop. It was established in 1900 and closed down 100 years later. A complete carpentry workshop from around 1900 is also on permanent loan to the Ziemetshausen Carpentry Museum.

The Taferne showcases a different kind of historical detail: the two-storey building is 20 metres long and 17 metres wide, with a ridge height of 20 metres. Together with the parish church, consecrated in 1705, it adds striking architectural history to the craft museums.

Parkland and events throughout the year

Nearby, within the destination area, lies Seyfriedsberg Castle Park. It is home to trees more than a hundred years old from every continent. The particularly mild microclimate on Seyfriedsberg also allows warmth-loving, frost-sensitive species such as the ginkgo tree to grow. The trees and microclimate give the park a different character from the collections and buildings in the town.

The Ziemetshausen Christkindlesmarkt is an annual event with its own tradition. It takes place on the second weekend of Advent and attracts visitors from near and far. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the dates for the relevant year.
