Cycle routes, art and waterside paths

The Paneuropean Cycle Route Paris–Prague, the Hohenzollern Cycle Route and the Bibert Valley Cycle Route pass through Ammerndorf. The Ammerndorf Art and Nature Trail takes walkers and cyclists from the Bibert Valley Cycle Route out into the surrounding countryside. Numerous works of art and sculptures stand along its cycle path, which is about 2.5 kilometres long. This lets you combine a bike ride with art in the open air, where the individual works are more than mere backdrops.

The Art and Nature Trail also includes a 2.5-kilometre walk along the Reichenbach. Along the stream, you can discover a still-water area, a bird sanctuary and a flower meadow. The path offers a different view of the surroundings than the routes through the countryside: here, the focus is on the stream and observing nature.

Another landmark is the threshing-machine house. It is halfway through Ammerndorf, right beside the cycle path; three more themed trails branch off from there. The building is also the starting and finishing point for tours on the Art and Nature Trail. It once housed the cooperative threshing machine and now serves as the clubhouse of the Ammerndorf Local History and Horticultural Association.

If you would rather plan a walk around the village, the one-kilometre cultural trail offers another way to get to know Ammerndorf. The route passes the rectory, St Peter and Paul Church and the market square, and continues as far as the former railway station.

Church, half-timbered houses and village festivals

Old half-timbered houses stand around the market square. The village church, with its distinctive onion dome, is regarded as a local landmark. St Peter and Paul Church also offers a glimpse into the village’s architectural history: it was remodelled in several stages during the 18th century. The tower was rebuilt in 1730, and its dome was given a Baroque style in 1761.

Ammerndorf’s celebrations include an elderflower festival in spring and a wine festival in autumn. These two seasonal events offer a chance to combine your stay with local festivities.

Brewery, inn and mill

The Dorn-Bräu private brewery has been based in Ammerndorf since 1730 and was for a long time the only brewery of its kind in the district. Tours for groups are available by prior arrangement. Across from the brewery, its inn invites you to stop for a meal in the shade of its beer garden; check before visiting whether the inn is open.

The Ammerndorf Mill also connects local history with a specific product. It dates back to 1607. A description from 2020 calls it one of the region’s last still-active grain mills. Today, the mill sells a range of organic flours. If you plan to buy flour, ask about the current selection before your visit.
