Its panorama of the Passion comprises twelve scenes from the story of Jesus’s suffering. The altarpiece’s wings are closed during Lent.
The tithe barn is also a distinctive part of the town’s architectural history: it is one of the oldest known half-timbered buildings in Kalchreuth and one of the oldest barns in the Nuremberg region. The former Haller Castle is an example of a small patrician manor in the Old Nuremberg region. Together, the buildings illustrate different aspects of the town’s historic architecture.
Pilgrimage Routes and a Regional Treat
The Upper Franconian Way of St. James passes through Kalchreuth on its final two stages, from Hof via Bayreuth to Nuremberg. A seven-day route on the Way of St. James runs from Rosenberg Fortress via Forchheim and Kalchreuth to Nuremberg.
