The Erding Farmhouse Museum comprises 15 historic buildings that were relocated there from the district of Erding. It focuses on the historic rural economy and way of life in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This means the focus is not only on individual buildings, but also on the lives and work they illustrate. If you are interested in regional history, you will find a different perspective here than on a guided city tour: the museum focuses on rural life.
The site also includes a farmers’ market. Every Friday from 12:00 to 16:30, farmers from the district of Erding offer regional and seasonal goods and food there. If you would like to combine your museum visit with a trip to the market, Friday is the right day of the week. The Farmhouse Museum can be reached on city bus routes 523 and 524, as well as regional bus routes 561 and 562, to the “Erding-Freilichtmuseum” stop. The Franz Xaver Stahl Museum offers another perspective on the past. It has been open to the public as a museum since 2014. The former home and studio is furnished with period furniture; the Biedermeier house dates from around 1840. The former studio has been preserved unchanged since Franz Xaver Stahl’s death. While the Farmhouse Museum focuses on rural economic and social life, the Franz Xaver Stahl Museum centres on a historic home and its preserved studio.
City History and Views
Guided city tours give residents and visitors an insight into the history of Erding and its buildings. A special addition is the tour of the town tower, which leads up one of the city’s oldest buildings. After 163 steps, the town tower tour reaches a height of 35 metres. From there, views extend over Erding and the surrounding area as far as Munich; on days with foehn winds, the Alpine panorama is also visible.
