The Landau Local History Museum also explores various aspects of life and the city’s history. It is housed in the 250-year-old Weißgerberhaus. A striking historic destination is the Maria im Steinfels pilgrimage church. It was consecrated in 1726, and its altar stands in front of a Nagelfluh rock face. The church is associated with Landau’s Sebastiani procession, which has been held since 1713 and ends at the pilgrimage church. The building’s history, the altar’s unusual setting and the procession offer different ways to explore religious history and tradition in Landau.
