Experience the Winemaking Tradition

At terroir f, striking red steles explain the history of grape varieties and the historic three-pole training system used in Franconian viticulture. At a wine bar, you can sample wine and discover its range of aromas. The wineries’ wine bars and tasting rooms offer opportunities to get to know their wines throughout the year. Wine-related experiences also include wine festivals and wine served at the terroir f site. If you want to plan a festival or tasting into your visit, check the specific dates and visitor arrangements in advance.

Trails, Views and Outdoor Art

The nature trail starts and ends at the festival grounds. Its route leads from the chapel past the forest kindergarten to Knückelein, the highest point in the Ramsthal municipal area. From there, the 360-degree view stretches to the Rhön, the Haßberge, the Steigerwald and the Spessart. There is parking at the festival grounds, as well as a wine and sausage vending machine where hikers can pick up provisions for their tour. Check the current status of practical facilities on site before setting out on a specific hike.

The Ramsthal Art Trail is a 2.6-kilometre circular route featuring five sculptures. They were created during the 1st Ramsthal Sculptors’ Symposium, held as part of Art Week 2019. The two routes offer different experiences: Knückelein viewpoint is a notable destination on the nature trail, while the sculptures take centre stage on the art trail. You can shape your visit around scenic views or outdoor art.

Cycling and Historic Buildings

Ramsthal can also be included in a cycling tour in different ways: the town is connected to the regional cycling network and can be a destination or stop on cycling tours through the Rhön. The town’s hills and valleys also offer opportunities for mountain biking. This provides a different way to plan your visit than the walking routes: you can make Ramsthal a destination or stop on a Rhön tour, or focus on cycling in the town’s hilly terrain.

The Ramsthal bakehouse was built in 1856 and has an attached livestock scale and a fire brigade equipment shed. Exterior renovation was completed in 2025; the bakehouse received a new oak bench and a new sign, and the outdoor area was replanted. St. Vitus Church also offers a glimpse into the past: the lower part of its Romanesque tower dates from between 1000 and 1250, while the base of the present-day church tower is dated to the 12th or 13th century. The church itself is first mentioned in documents in the 15th century. Its exact year of construction is unknown.

Choose the Right Focus for Your Holiday

These different sides of Ramsthal can be a good starting point when choosing a holiday apartment: would you like to include wine tastings and architectural history in your days, or focus on hiking trails, sculptures and cycling opportunities? If you are planning a trip with varied interests, you can weigh up culture and outdoor activities to decide which character best suits your stay.
