Siegenburg brings together a distinctive landscape, a vibrant hop-growing tradition and striking buildings. The inland dunes, covering around 15 hectares, the monument in the market square and the Bürgerfest festival reveal different sides of the town. The outdoor pool and a brewery tour also offer something different. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Siegenburg, these themes can help you tailor your stay to your interests.

Inland Dunes Between Pine Forest and Open Sand

Siegenburg’s inland dunes are gently hilly and covered with a sparse pine forest; in many places, pure sand lies exposed. They date back to the Late Glacial period, when strong winds shaped the terrain. The hot sand and extremely nutrient-poor soil create conditions in which many rare plants grow. Pine trees, open dunes and distinctive plant life come together in a small area. Visitors interested in nature and landscape formations will find a specific point of interest here, clearly distinct from the town’s cultural attractions.

Another natural feature is the disused chimney of the Schmidmayer Brewery, where storks have been nesting for more than 50 years. The dunes and the chimney represent two different connections with nature in Siegenburg: a shaped landscape and a long-used nesting site. Together with the rare plants, they offer nature lovers several reasons to consider Siegenburg when planning a trip.

Hop-Growing Tradition and Distinctive Local History

The Mariensäule (Mary’s Column) stands at the heart of the market square. Its stone base bears the inscription “St. Maria ora pro nobis”; the column was dedicated on December 8, 1878, for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The Pilbis-Schlösschen is another architectural focal point: it has two stories and two distinctive gables above a three-story roof space. The two buildings make different impressions, from a monument in the center of the market square to a striking roofline.

The hop-growing tradition is reflected both in local history and in an annual festival. Siegenburg was granted official hop-seal rights in 1846 and is the Hallertau’s third-oldest hop-sealing community. The German Hop-Picking Championship is held on Sundays during the annual Bürgerfest festival. Visitors particularly interested in local traditions can therefore include both historical context and a specific festival event in their travel plans.

Outdoor Pool and Brewery Tour

The large pool at Siegenburg’s outdoor swimming pool offers space for swimming, diving and playing. Facilities include a small and a large slide, a one-meter diving board, a three-meter diving tower, diving blocks, a mushroom fountain with a waterfall and two massage jets. The pool is open seasonally; opening dates and conditions may vary. If the pool is important to your stay, check the latest information before making plans.

A brewery tour offers insights into the craft of brewing beer, as well as information about the history, craft and traditions of brewing. Tours are available by arrangement; check availability before visiting. Alongside the landscape and monuments, visitors can choose from a seasonal swimming option and an activity that can be booked by appointment.
