Moorland and hiking trails

More than 80 kilometres of hiking trails criss-cross Missen-Wilhams. These include routes with little elevation gain through the foothills of the Alps. If you want to focus especially on the natural environment of the moor during an outing, you will find the Tuffenmoos Moor Experience Trail in the village of Wiederhofen. Three short boardwalks lead into the moor while protecting the natural environment; along the way, you can learn about the habitats of the wet meadow, peat-cutting edge and raised bog. This way, the focus is not only on the landscape but also on the different areas of the moor.

Tuffenmoos can be reached from Missen via the Luimweg in 45 minutes on foot. You can take this specific journey time into account when planning an outing. Carl Hirnbein and regional history

The Carl Hirnbein Experience Trail offers insights into the period before and during Carl Hirnbein’s lifetime, as well as life in the Allgäu. You can listen to stories at two audio stations. The theme also features at the Carl Hirnbein Museum in Missen-Wilhams: it covers Hirnbein’s life and work, and his pivotal role in the Allgäu’s development from impoverished arable farming to successful dairy farming. The trail and the museum thus explore different aspects of the same regional history—outdoors, through stations and audio stories; in the museum, through the story of Hirnbein and the transformation of agriculture.

Outside the festival tent, Missener Kirbe features a large market for general goods and handicrafts, with more than 100 stallholders and traders. The selection ranges from toys, jewellery and clothing to traditional costumes, felted and knitted goods, woodwork and culinary treats. Cross-country skiing and downhill skiing in winter

These include seven ski lifts in two districts, easy to intermediate downhill runs, and two professional ski and snowboard schools with equipment rental.
