Bird trail: observe, solve puzzles and look inside

The Friesenried bird trail features 50 native bird species at a total of 25 stations. The number of stations and the variety of species on display give the walk a clear natural history focus. If you are visiting together, you can complement the information with a bird quiz, a Bandolino puzzle and a listening cone. The different activities invite you not only to look at birds, but also to learn about them in a fun way.

Another special spot along the trail is the sandarium. Since summer 2025, this artificially created, sunny sandy nesting site for ground-nesting wild bees and other insects has been there. At the Vogelnest wooden pavilion, you can look inside nesting boxes through a tube. The sandarium and pavilion thus draw attention to different aspects of the lives of birds and insects.

The Green Classroom is also located on the bird trail. The forest stage was established as an extension of the Green Classroom on the LBV bird trail. Groups wishing to visit the Green Classroom can register at the Friesenried primary school office: 08347 207. This gives groups a specific point of contact for registration.

Cycling through Friesenried

A cycling tour with hardly any climbs runs from the municipalities of Lauchdorf via Friesenried to Bad Wörishofen. If you like to include a bike ride in your holiday, this route offers a different focus from the natural and cultural attractions in the village. The small number of climbs is a helpful consideration when planning your own route; no distance or journey time is specified.

Cross-country skiing is also mentioned in connection with the area: the best-known cross-country ski trail starts in Aschthal, in the municipality of Friesenried. This means you can take different interests into account when choosing your outings. The OAL3 and Road 2055 provide access to the bird trail. Parking is available at the car park in Aschthal in the Königsberger Forst.

Churches and architectural history

The parish church of St Joseph in Friesenried is associated with a new building completed in 1929. The former St Joseph’s Church was built in the Baroque style in 1695; it was demolished and replaced in 1929 by a modern, unpretentious new building. Following this construction, St Joseph’s became the parish church for Friesenried and Salenwang. This sequence makes it possible to trace the change from a Baroque church to a simple 20th-century building.

Nearby, between Friesenried and Salenwang, stands the Church of St Bartholomew and St Cyriacus. It was consecrated on 29 October 1508. The choir and nave are Late Gothic, as is the church tower; the furnishings today are Late Baroque. This church therefore brings together Late Gothic architectural elements and furnishings from a later period. The chapel on the Riedberg is also located southeast of Friesenried.
