History and Culture
The Basilica of St. George in Thiergarten was first mentioned in a document in 1275. It is described as the smallest three-aisled basilica north of the Alps and is said to have been built around the year 1000.
Falkenstein Cave is located about 2 km from Thiergarten. The archaeological finds there include around 9,000 Mesolithic tools, implements and pieces of jewellery, as well as human skeletal remains.
The ruins of Burgfelden Castle, Heidenschloß Castle and Wagenburg Castle are also located near Thiergarten.
Things to Do
Thiergarten has two official circular trails. The longer route is 13.7 km long, passes the ruins of Falkenstein near Thiergarten as well as Schaufelsen, Neidingen, Lenzenfelsen and Neumühle, and takes around 3–4 hours. The shorter circular trail is 4.2 km long, runs via St. George's Bridge, Rabenfelsen and Gutshof Käppeler in Beuron-Thiergarten, which serves regional cuisine as a certified Nature Park host in the Upper Danube Nature Park network, and takes around 1.5 hours.

The Scheinenberg is located in the area surrounding Thiergarten. Weichenwang and Reiten (South) are situated in the wider regional area. Kitzisberg, in turn, is located near Thiergarten.
