Circular Trails and Cycling

Three circular trails offer different distances and themes. The “Wine and Orchard Trail” is 5.6 kilometres long and combines a walk with vineyards and orchards, themes typical of Winterbach and the Remstal. The “Engelberg Panorama Trail” is 6 kilometres long and starts at Winterbach station. The “Wild Lehenbach Valley” circular trail is 7.1 kilometres long; its starting point is Winterbach outdoor swimming pool. This means you can factor the distance, the main theme and—for two of the trails—a specifically named starting point into your plans.

Cyclists can also enjoy a connection to the local landscape: in Winterbach, the approximately 106-kilometre Remstal Cycle Route follows the renaturalised Rems. Its total length places the Winterbach section within a long-distance route, while its course along the Rems provides the local connection. Whether you would rather plan your holiday around hiking loops or the cycle route may therefore also influence your choice of holiday apartment.

Town Centre, Architectural History and Crafts

The historic town centre includes St Michael’s Church, the Neptune Fountain on the market square and three town halls. In this part of town, ecclesiastical architecture, a fountain on the market square and several town halls provide different points of interest. Anyone interested in the history and character of a place will find more than just one building to explore here.

The Winterbach Village and Local History Museum is housed in a building dating from 1776. It illustrates the layout of a typical local farmhouse, where living quarters, livestock and storage were all arranged under one roof. The museum also includes the former Hafner pottery kiln hut, which was renovated in 1995/96 and stands a few metres west of the museum. Pottery made there is on display; a potter’s wheel is also set up and in operation. A visit to the museum thus combines a look at the layout of a farmhouse with insights into pottery and its products.

The Winterbach Cultural Circle’s annual programme covers visual arts, crafts, theatre, music and literature. Its range therefore extends from visual and craft-based forms of expression to theatre, music and literature. Places to Play and Relax by the Water and at the Edge of the Forest

Treibholzspielgeräte and a water fountain play area for children are located on the Rems riverbank at Gleisdorfer Platz. The public Hindererstein barbecue and playground offers a different setting: it is car-free, at the edge of the forest in the Lehenbach Valley and close to the reservoir. The two places differ in location and facilities—from the riverbank, with play equipment and fountains, to the forest edge, with a barbecue area and playground. When planning an outing, you can therefore choose between spending time by the river and heading to a destination in the Lehenbach Valley.
