Culture and History

The Musée de la Cordonnerie displays tools used in traditional craftsmanship, various nails, wooden clogs and sewing machines left behind by the last craftspeople. The Pont Vieux, which was destroyed during the Second World War, was rebuilt true to the original.

Notre-Dame de Plaimpalais is a contemporary church built in the 1950s. It features abstract stained-glass windows by Alfred Manessier and can be visited free of charge during the day.

The Chéran is a wild mountain stream and has been recognised as a “site rivières sauvages” since May 2019. There has been a no-kill fishing area in Alby-sur-Chéran since 1999.
