Nature
The Carrière de Ricou is designated as an Espace Naturel Sensible and is now a protected natural area that is open to the public. It has a discovery trail of around 1 kilometre with information panels; part of the route is accessible to people with reduced mobility. Its seven habitats are home to a remarkable variety of wildlife and plant life, including the thyme blue butterfly and the fire salamander.

Anyone planning to visit the Carrière de Ricou, the “Balades d’Azay” and the former Saint-Barthélémy priory in Azay-le-Brûlé may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Getting around
The “Balades d’Azay” take you along paths between trees and hedgerows, as well as beside the Sèvre Niortaise, the Chambon and the Ligueure. The “Le pont romain” hiking route also runs through Azay-le-Brûlé; it is 13.5 kilometres long and takes 3 hours 30 minutes. The Roman bridge is evidence of an ancient trade route to the sea during the era of Roman Gaul.
History and culture
The former Saint-Barthélémy priory was fortified in 1489; its cloister may date from the 16th century. The private part of the former Saint-Barthélémy priory can be visited by arrangement with the owners; an introduction to beekeeping is also offered.
The Saint-Carlais washhouse is associated with a local legend: Two farmhands promised to wash their laundry there together the following day.
Wellness
The Aqua Severa wellness area includes a sauna, a hammam, a spa, relaxing showers, a solarium and a tearoom. Aqua Severa is accessible to people with disabilities.
Local produce
The organic farm GAEC Plaine de Foumard breeds goats, produces organic goat’s cheese and sells it on the farm.
Plaisirs Fermiers is a producer’s shop with a butcher’s section, charcuterie, catering, seasonal fruit and vegetables, cheese, dairy products, spices, beer and wine.
