The Château de Gudanes was rebuilt from 1741 to 1750 as the residence of a maître de forges (ironmaster). Its ornamental garden was laid out in 1739 as a formal classical garden for a maître de forges (ironmaster).
The former Gudanes forge in Château-Verdun is considered a Catalan forge. The canal of the former forge remains clearly visible in the landscape as far as the basin; the basin itself is overgrown with trees and dense vegetation.

The municipality of Château-Verdun lies within the Vallée de l'Aston ZNIEFF area. The Vallée de l'Aston ZNIEFF area contains mountain forests, including beech forests and beech-fir forests, extensive summer pastures with heathland, dwarf-shrub heath, and subalpine and alpine grasslands; cliffs and scree slopes are also widespread.
The Vallée de l'Aston ZNIEFF area extends across elevations from 550 to 2,874 m. The Vallée de l'Aston ZNIEFF area is home to populations of the Pyrenean desman (Galemys pyrenaicus) and the European otter (Lutra lutra), two semiaquatic mammal species of high importance for nature conservation.
A signposted hiking trail is located less than 500 m from the Château de Gudanes.
