Kangasala combines Finnish transport and art history with a moraine or esker landscape shaped by the Ice Age. You can also explore the area on an audio-guided cycling tour or along the Kaarinanpolku trail. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose different focuses: museum visits, outdoor activities, or a mix of both.

Discover transport and art history

Mobilia is Finland’s national specialist museum of motoring and road transport. It features permanent exhibitions and exhibitions that change each year, along with programmes and events. Its focus makes Mobilia a destination for anyone interested in motoring and road transport. In summer, Mobilia’s traffic park teaches children how to behave safely in traffic. This adds a practical topic for families to consider, alongside the museum, if they are also interested in road safety education.

The Kimmo Pyykkö Art Museum offers a different cultural perspective. Its permanent exhibition, “Pitkän matkan ateljee” (“The Long-Distance Studio”), presents the sculptor’s more than 50-year career in the Finnish art scene. The art museum also holds three temporary exhibitions each year. The two museums therefore have clearly distinct profiles: Mobilia focuses on motoring and road transport, while the art museum centres on Kimmo Pyykkö’s artistic career and changing exhibitions. If you are travelling with a range of interests, you can take these themes into account separately when planning.

Explore by bike or on foot

The Kulttuuripyöräilyreitti is a narrative-led, audio-guided cycling route about 17 kilometres long. It runs from the cultural district at Kangasala-talo to Mobilia and back to the town centre. Its length, route and audio guide give the ride its own character. You can include it as an option in your travel plans if you would like to combine cultural destinations with a bike ride; the route specifically returns to the town centre.

If you would rather make a hike the focus of your trip, the Kaarinanpolku is a trail about 60 kilometres long. It runs from the north of Kangasala south to the border with Lempäälä, where it connects with the Birgitan polku trail in Lempäälä. You can also walk shorter sections of the Kaarinanpolku. This means you can consider the route either as a longer hike or in sections. Its connection to the Birgitan polku is also a useful point of reference if you are looking at the southern route beyond Kangasala.

Choose a holiday rental to suit your interests

The Ice Age shaped Kangasala’s moraine or esker landscape, which runs through the area. Together with the museums and the two different routes, this creates a varied picture: art and transport sit alongside a landscape you can experience as part of your trip on foot or by bike. The activities differ in theme and route format, without prescribing a single set itinerary.

When looking for a holiday rental in Kangasala, your preferred type of holiday can be a useful starting point. First consider whether you are especially interested in transport and art, or whether you would like to plan a hike or the audio-guided cycling tour. Families can also consider Mobilia’s summer traffic park.
