Yli-Lesti combines nature experiences with a long history of settlement: at the Anttila suspension bridge, forest trails and the river take centre stage, while the area's history reaches far back into prehistory. This offers various starting points for planning your trip, from outdoor activities to discovering historical traces. If you are planning a family trip, you can first consider whether shared activities or local history should set the tone for your stay.

Winter ski trail and forest paths by the river

In winter, the Yli-Lesti running trail is used for skiing; two kilometres of it are illuminated. This provides a specific activity focus for the cold season. The Anttila suspension bridge offers a different way to experience the landscape: it connects the green forest trails on both sides of the river. A visit to the bridge can be combined with walks or cycling trips along Yli-Lesti's forest trails.

The potential ideas for a day out differ accordingly: the running trail is explicitly associated with winter, while walks or cycling trips along forest trails are the focus at the bridge. The Anttila suspension bridge was built in December 2001. Its year of construction provides a clear contrast in time with the much older traces of human settlement in the area.

A landscape with a long history

The Yli-Lesti area has been settled for more than 6,000 years. In the Stone Age, settlement was concentrated around a small lake held back by a ridge. By the Bronze Age at the latest, an outlet had cut through the ridge, causing the small lake to dry up. At that time, Lake Lestijärvi extended as far as the ridge. This sequence makes the history of the landscape tangible: the place where early settlement was concentrated changed fundamentally over time.

The Anttila settlement group is also part of this history. It dates from the Late Bronze Age and lies northeast of the ridge. Among other finds, a Scandinavian bronze spearhead was discovered there. So-called Paimio pottery from southwestern Finland was also found. These two finds provide concrete reference points for the history: one is a bronze weapon, the other a type of pottery with a named origin. Those interested in culture and the past will find a different focus here than on the forest trails or winter ski trail.

Visitor information and cultural venues

Riistaravintola Pikku Peura by Lake Valkeinen is a catering restaurant that opens by reservation. Make a reservation before your visit. The venue also serves as the Metsäpeuranmaa information centre, which includes the Peuran polku nature trail. This means that the venue combines its dining function with a visitor information role for Metsäpeuranmaa.

Yli-Lestin työväentalo offers another cultural point of interest. The venue can be rented for private celebrations, theatre performances or band nights; booking is required. The large hall has a large stage for performances. If you are planning an event, you should therefore consider the venue as a rental option and book it in advance. This differs from a stay whose daily plans focus mainly on the trails or the historic landscape.

Plan your stay and holiday apartment

When looking for a holiday apartment in Yli-Lesti, the focus you want for your stay can be a good starting point. The winter running trail offers a seasonal activity, while a visit to the Anttila suspension bridge can be combined with walks or cycling trips. Those particularly interested in local history can focus on the settlement traces at Anttila. This lets you first decide what kind of trip you want, then look for a suitable holiday apartment.
