Art, a historic reinforced-concrete bridge, bobbin lace and trails of varying lengths: Orimattila offers many ways to shape your trip. When planning your stay, you can first decide whether to focus on museums and history, nature experiences or activities in Artjärvi. These interests can also help guide your search for a suitable holiday rental.

Art, everyday history and craftsmanship

The core of the Orimattilan taidemuseo collection consists of works from the Ilmari and Toini Wall-Hakala Art Foundation. The Orimattilan kotiseutumuseo offers a glimpse into rural life around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The two museums offer different perspectives: one focuses on an art collection, while the other presents rural life in a particular historical period. If you are interested in both, you can make them separate focal points of your stay.

You can discover another local tradition at Pitsitupa. It showcases traditional bobbin lace, local handicrafts and the lace culture of Heinämaa. Its offerings include exhibitions, demonstrations and courses, as well as opportunities to try bobbin lace-making yourself. A visit need not be limited to viewing handicrafts: the different activities offer insight into a textile tradition and how it is made.

A bridge with a special history

The Tönnö Museum Bridge was completed in 1911. It was Finland’s first arch bridge and is the country’s oldest surviving reinforced-concrete bridge. Together with Tönnönkoski and the old mill, it forms a nationally significant cultural landscape. Here, the history of the structure is connected with a river landscape and a historic mill site. For a trip focused on architecture and cultural history, this ensemble is a distinctive point of interest.

Nature trails and water in Artjärvi

Artjärvi offers trails of varying lengths. The Lamminpolku–Rajasuonpolku circular route includes the 2.5 km Lamminpolku and the 6 km Rajasuonpolku. The 10 km Villisikapolku starts in the centre of Artjärvi and runs to the Myrskylä boundary.

The Myllykulmankoski nature experience on the Porvoonjoki River also has a distinctive character. The destination is considered easy to reach and atmospheric, bringing nature and history together. Water flows over a rocky ledge and then continues downstream as white water. If you would rather explore a natural setting, you can also visit the Mieliäissuo nature trail in a Natura 2000 area.

Stars, animals and activities

Tähtikallio in Artjärvi is an observation and education centre operated by Ursa, with high-quality astronomical observation equipment and spacious facilities. It is suitable for independent observations, amateur astronomers’ meetings and courses. Important for planning: visits are possible only by prior arrangement.

At the Orimattilan kotieläinpuisto, you can see animals ranging from alpacas to ponies. Horse enthusiasts can find riding lessons, riding camps, training and equestrian experiences in a rural setting at Tortolan Tallit in Artjärvi. For days by the water, there is the municipally maintained Pyykkinekan uimaranta bathing beach on Lake Pyhäjärvi. It has a jetty and a boat launch. Together, these places offer options for different travel interests without making every activity revolve around the same theme.

Choosing a holiday rental begins with the travel experience that matters to you.
