In Ruka, winding rides meet bike trails and guided nature experiences. For families who like to enjoy a varied holiday, the different activities around Ruka Village and Ruka Valley are particularly appealing: from the Ruka Coaster and Summer Sled Track to the trails of the Ruka Bike Park. There are also practical points to help you choose a suitable area to stay.

Coaster and Summer Sled Track

The Ruka Coaster runs along a winding track more than 750 metres long, reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h. The Ruka Summer Sled Track offers a different kind of descent: it is a one-kilometre steel sled track ridden on a specially designed sled. When planning your holiday together, you can therefore choose between a winding coaster track and a longer steel sled track.

From Ruka Village, you can reach the Summer Sled Track via the Village-Express chairlift. If you are considering Ruka Village as a possible location for your holiday apartment, this connection offers a practical point of reference for planning your day; no journey time is specified.

Bike Park: Trails and lifts

The trails in the Ruka Bike Park are accessible via four bike lifts: the Village-2-Valley gondola, the Village-Express chairlift, the Vuosseli T-bar lift and the Family Park magic carpet. The downhill bike trails are divided into Flow and Technical categories. This classification offers an initial indication of which type of trail you may want to look at more closely, without providing further details about individual trails.

The Family Park in the Ruka Bike Park is especially suitable for beginners and is located right next to Ruka Valley. For families with different levels of riding experience, this area can serve as a useful point of reference. In summer, Ruka Guided Nature Experiences also offers guided hikes and e-bike tours. Alongside the bike park trails, there are therefore guided options on foot and by e-bike.

Ruka Village, Ruka Valley and the Karhunkierros

The Village-2-Valley gondola connects Ruka Village and Ruka Valley in about nine minutes. The centre of Ruka Village is car-free. If you are choosing between these two areas, the gondola connection and the car-free village centre can help guide your decision.

There is also an important change for hikers on the Karhunkierros Trail: its official starting and finishing point has been moved from Ruka Village to Saarua in eastern Ruka. Following the move, the trail will be 81 kilometres long in total. If you want to include this trail in your trip, be sure to consider Saarua as the new official starting and finishing point and factor the total distance into your plans.
