Keeni combines an experience of nature, local history and quiet discoveries. The protected Keeni Park covers 8.4 hectares and provides a strong green focus. In addition, there is Keeni Manor with its stone main building, a walking trail along the Keeni oja and a Stone Age burial site from the Roman Iron Age in the village. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday house in Keeni can therefore choose the location according to their own interests: between the park and the landscape, manor history and short excursions, it is possible to plan a varied stay.

Park and watercourse as natural points of reference

The protected Keeni Park covers 8.4 hectares. Another tangible landscape experience is possible at the Keeni oja: the outdoor terrace of the guesthouse of Keeni Manor offers a view of the watercourse. A new walking trail also leads from the manor guesthouse along the banks of the Keeni oja to Keeni Manor. This connection is suitable for anyone who would like to begin their stay with a walk and establish a link between the watercourse and the manor, without devoting the entire day exclusively to historical sightseeing.

Keeni Manor: history spanning several centuries

The first written records of Keeni Manor date from 1551. In the second half of the 17th century, it was one of the eight manors connected with Sangaste under Swedish rule. The stone main building also reflects several historical periods: it was probably built as early as the end of the 18th century and slightly altered in the 19th century. After nationalisation, the Sangaste Forestry Administration used the main building; from 1938 to 1988, it housed the Keeni school.

As part of the planned visitor offering, guests could walk around the manor grounds and the manor house of Keeni. This made it possible to view the historic architecture from the outside as well as the extensive renovation work carried out in recent years. The visit therefore combines the history of the manor with a tour during which the structural changes can be seen. For a trip involving different interests, this can be a good complement to experiences of nature in the park or along the Keeni oja.

Walks, parking and a seasonal café date

Free parking is available at the guesthouse of Keeni Manor and at Keeni Manor. This specific point of reference can play a role in planning your day if you are arriving by car and would then like to continue on foot. A cosy café with fresh cakes, pastries, coffee and other café offerings was also planned at the guesthouse of Keeni Manor for 25 July. The date complements the historical and landscape impressions with an opportunity for a break; it should be understood as a date-specific offering.

Planning Keeni as a place to stay

When choosing your accommodation in Keeni, it is worth first deciding on the focus you want for your trip. The local history is at the centre if you would like to learn about the manor, its written beginnings and the development of the main building. Keeni Park and the walking trail along the Keeni oja set different accents and give the stay a stronger landscape-oriented rhythm. The Stone Age burial site from the Roman Iron Age also broadens the range of experiences with an archaeological connection.

Construction work was planned on the Palupera–Puka–Keeni railway section from May to November 2026. In Elron’s scheduled replacement bus service, a “Keeni” stop on Pargi tänav was planned. If you were planning your trip around this period, this information formed part of the travel planning. For other destinations to consider, you can also look at Lauküla and Tiidu. Keeni thus remains a suitable choice for travellers who want to combine manor history, nature and a walk along the watercourse.
