Pulli combines an exceptional Stone Age history with experiences centred around rivers, water and nearby destinations. Those who choose a trip not only for its landscapes but also for its special stories will find an interesting starting point here for planning their holiday. When looking for a holiday apartment in Pulli, you can therefore consider whether you would like to focus on archaeology, excursions in the Tori municipality area or active days on the water.

A Stone Age settlement

The archaeological settlement of Pulli is located in the village of Pulli and dates back to a very early phase of human settlement: the first settlers arrived at this site 10,000 to 11,000 years ago. The site was probably used as a seasonal campsite around 9000–8550 BC. Over the centuries, the archaeological settlement became buried beneath several metres of sediment. It is precisely this depth in time that makes the site a destination for travellers interested in prehistory and the development of human settlements.

The history of the site also includes an exhibition about the Stone Age settlement of Pulli, which opened in autumn 2022. The site itself has a rest area and a bathing spot. This means that a visit can be combined in your plans with a break by the water, without having to plan your day exclusively as a museum or sightseeing itinerary. For families, the contrast between the settlement's very ancient history and the site's present-day use can provide an engaging topic of conversation.

Water, rivers and routes around Pulli

Another focus is the Pärnu River and the waterways in the surrounding area. The nearby Sindi Rapids were created in 2020 at the site of a former dam. After the dam was demolished, spawning grounds were created for fish and the Pärnu River was opened to fish migration. This place therefore represents not only an experience by the water but also the transformation of a river landscape.

Canoe trips take place in the Pärnu river system in the Tori municipality area. The routes follow the Lemmjõgi, Raudna, Halliste, Navesti and Pärnu rivers and offer views of the banks of Soomaa as well as Tori põrgu. If you would like to combine active days with nature observation during your holiday, such canoe trips can be a focus of your travel planning in their own right. A modern 1.8 km route for non-motorised traffic is also being built and is intended to connect Urge küla, Pulli küla and Sindi linn. There are bus and railway stops along the route.

Sindi and Tori as further travel ideas

Nearby Sindi is home to the Sindi Museum, located in a small house where Estonia's first cooperative, the Sindi Kalev Factory Association, was founded on 17 November 1902. The main exhibition covers the history of the textile industry and the factory, the lives and times of factory workers, and the history of the town of Sindi and Sindi School. In this way, Sindi complements Pulli's Stone Age perspective with industrial, everyday and urban history.

In the Tori municipality area, the Tori Horse Breeding Farm offers guided tours and horseback rides. This creates a range of options for planning your day: you can explore Pulli's early history, visit an exhibition on industrial history, explore rivers by canoe or take up the subject of horse breeding. Your choice of accommodation should match the focus you want to give your trip.
