Discover Rooslepa
Accommodation in Rooslepa
Rooslepa surprises visitors with a combination of distinctive erratic boulders, a historic cemetery complex, and a unique beer hike.
Erratic boulders of exceptional dimensions
West of the village, the Rooslepa Läänemetsa boulder group lies on the edge of the forest and within the woodland. Its largest erratic boulder is 7.1 metres long, 6.4 metres wide, and 3.0 metres high; its circumference is 20.4 metres. These precise dimensions make the site an impressive destination for anyone seeking unusual landforms and geological features while travelling. When planning your visit, bear in mind that the boulder group clearly presents itself as a distinct natural feature of the village through its location west of Rooslepa and its setting in the forest.
A second distinctive stone is located in the village: the Laevarahn/Oamusa stain is a well-preserved giant erratic boulder of exceptional proportions. It is 4.5 metres high and has a circumference of 28.9 metres. This means that Rooslepa offers two different erratic-boulder experiences: a boulder group on the edge of the forest and within the woodland, and a single large stone in the village.
Cemetery, chapel, and commemorative heritage
Rooslepa Cemetery has probably been used as a burial site since the middle of the 16th century. The history of this complex is presented in the Taube Family Memorial Chapel at the cemetery. The history of the chapel itself dates back to the 17th century. Construction of the stone chapel began in 1834 and was completed in 1835. A memorial stone for the Estonian-Swedish poet Mats Ekman stands on its north side.
These historical sites give your trip to Rooslepa a cultural dimension without requiring you to focus on a single theme. Anyone interested in regional history, cemeteries, or sacred architecture will find several interconnected points of interest here. In a travel group with different preferences, nature, local history, and commemorative sites can therefore each provide their own focus.
A beer hike with local connections
The Roslep Brewery beer hike is 5–8 kilometres long and includes 4–6 stations. At each station, participants learn something about local history and the world of beer. The hike is connected with Soolaokka in the village of Rooslepa küla / Roslep. This adds an experience combining physical activity and regional themes to the erratic boulders and historic sites. The specified route length and number of stations help you incorporate this activity consciously into your daily itinerary.
Rooslepa is particularly well suited to a trip where no single highlight is the sole focus. Choose your holiday apartment according to the emphasis you want to give your days.
