Rohuneeme combines a protected coastal landscape, varied trails and a rich, layered history. The Rohuneeme Landscape Protection Area covers 243.6 hectares and includes forest as well as rocky and sandy coastal areas. For planning your trip, this creates an appealing mix of nature observation, activities by the water and historical discoveries.

Nature Trails Between Forest and Coast

The Loodusmetsa Nature Trail offers a particularly vivid experience. From Rohuneeme tee, near a large erratic boulder, it leads over or around the ski hill to Kuusiku Bay and onward to the coast of the headland. Along the way, the trail passes through a variety of forest communities. The coastal section of the Loodusmetsa Nature Trail is approximately 2 km long. Take this distance into account when planning your day and choose the appropriate mode of travel for your group: the trail can be walked, cycled and, in winter, traversed on skis.

For the Rohuneeme hiking trail, parking is available at the end of Kalmistu tee, immediately before the barrier. Another option for enjoying nature is the Rohuneeme fitness trail. The unlit running route is 1–5 km long; its starting point is at the Rohuneeme cemetery car park and can be reached along Kalmistu tee up to the barrier. In nearby Püünsi, the Rohuneeme recreational area also has 1 km, 2.5 km and 6 km fitness and ski trails.

Sandy Beach and Coastal Moments

Otilõuka rand beach lies on the eastern shore of Rohuneeme and faces Muuga Bay. The sandy beach makes a good standalone part of a trip alongside the forest trails and appeals to visitors who want to combine a day by the water with experiences in nature. For practical planning, eight parking spaces are available for guests there. There is also a changing room, but no toilets. If you are planning your outing with children or several generations, you can arrange the necessary breaks and beach-day items yourself.

Chapel, Cemetery and Traces of the Cold War

Rohuneeme also has a notable cultural dimension. The first written records of the Rohuneeme Chapel date from 1569. The present Rohuneeme Chapel was rebuilt in 1921 on the Estonian mainland in Rohuneeme after having been dismantled on Aegna. The older part of the Rohuneeme cemetery is protected as a heritage site.

The heritage of the Coastal Swedes is also part of the area's character. For centuries, Rohuneeme was part of their traditional settlement area. Estonian and Swedish influences can still be seen today in place names and local histories. Another historical connection leads back to the Cold War: the Rohuneeme raketibaas was built in the 1960s during the Soviet rule to test and launch rockets that formed part of Cold War military developments. A section of the Muuga–Püünsi route also passes through former Soviet military grounds in Rohuneeme.

Rohuneeme as a Starting Point for Your Trip

When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Rohuneeme, it is worth first deciding on your preferred travel rhythm. Those who want to focus on forest, coast and beach can plan their days around the Loodusmetsa Nature Trail, Otilõuka rand and the fitness trail. Those with a stronger interest in local history can complement their nature experiences with the chapel, cemetery and historical traces of the former military grounds. This keeps the choice of accommodation connected to your own interests without grouping individual destinations together as if they shared the same location or were only a short distance apart.

For another excursion in the surrounding region, Wanderlust offers a guided hike on the Viimsi Peninsula along the Baltic Sea coast, including a search for large erratic boulders. This hike usually lasts 2–3 hours. If you would also like to compare different destinations in the travel area, you can find Viimsi, Randvere, Kelnase, Lääneotsa, Äigrumäe, Muuga and Naissaare as additional places to visit.
