Klintholm Havn: Harbor, Beaches, and Water Sports

Klintholm Havn combines lively harbor life with beaches, chalk cliffs, and a wide range of experiences on the water. During certain periods, the active fishing harbor receives large landings of herring and cod. The town is therefore particularly interesting when choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home if you want to combine maritime impressions, activity, and excursions on Møn.

Harbor, Beach, and Days by the Water

Klintholm Havn is located between two of Møn’s best bathing beaches. The beach on the western side is particularly suitable for families with children, as you have to walk far into the water before it becomes deep. This makes it easy to plan a day at the beach as a relaxing part of your holiday, while the harbor and other water-based activities provide variety.

Salmon fishing is possible from Klintholm Havn all year round. Boat tours along the chalk cliffs of Møns Klint also depart from here. Anyone who wants to experience the coastal landscape from the water gets a different perspective on the famous cliffs. There are also various options on land: From Klintholm Havn, you can reach Møns Klint and Høvblege on foot or by bicycle.

Water Sports for Different Needs

At Møn Surf, visitors can learn kitesurfing, surfing, windsurfing, and stand-up paddleboarding. Møn Surf Café rents out SUP boards and surfboards. You can also get information there about the courses offered and the island’s surf spots. A café overlooking the harbor invites you to take a break with a cold drink.

For a longer excursion on the water, the kayak route from Klintholm Havn to Møns Klint is approximately 18–22 km long. It requires paddling experience and should therefore be planned accordingly as part of the day. Kayaks can be launched at the bridge outside the smokehouse in Klintholm Havn or at the two beaches on either side of the harbor. If you are looking for a shorter or less specialized activity, you can instead use the Kridtstien trail between Camp Møns Klint and the Geocenter on foot or by bicycle.

If you are arriving by water, the harbor can be entered around the clock. Bus connections run to Stege and the rest of Møn. The history of the town is also closely connected with the harbor. Klintholm Havn was expanded in 1911 around a fishing harbor and a lifeboat station. A memorial stone at Klintholm Havn also commemorates concentration camp prisoners from the German Stutthof concentration camp near Danzig in Poland who were rescued there. Anyone interested in the history and evolved structures of Møn can take these aspects into account when planning their trip. Klintholm Gods is located on Møn near Møns Klint and has been owned by the Scavenius family for seven generations since 1798.
