Holsted combines varied trails, the river landscape along the Holsted Å and remarkable architectural heritage. Trails for Different Day Plans

The four Kløverstier trails in Holsted are 3 km, 5.5 km, 7.8 km and 10.5 km long. They can be used on foot and by bicycle. The red Kløverstier route is designed as a historical walk with viewpoints. This gives you several trail lengths and a special historical perspective on Holsted to choose from, without having to commit to just one route.

There are also three routes along the Holsted Å, measuring 2.4 km, 3.7 km and 4.7 km. Medius also offers four differently themed routes through the town and into the surrounding area of Holsted. If you prefer cycling, you can use the 18-km Cykelrute 15, which connects Holsted, Assersbølgård and Plantagen or allows you to experience them. Holsted Å and Green Recreational Areas

The Holsted Å follows a natural, meandering course. The bogs, meadows and dry grasslands along the river are protected; the river and its surroundings also form part of a Natura 2000 site, meaning an international nature conservation area. The Holsted Å is also a good fishing river with a healthy population of trout. The river landscape therefore offers a range of opportunities for walks, nature observation and fishing.

Skoleplantagen lies west of Holsted, between the Holsted Å and Vestergade. The woodland area also includes a local memorial site. Skoleplantagen has a playground, tennis courts, trails and benches, making it suitable for picnics. Holsted Lystanlæg is a recreational area of approximately 4 hectares close to the town, near Holsted Stationsby, which was established in 1945. It has a forest playground, a tennis court, ball courts, a dog enclosure, a fallow deer enclosure and a shelter. The facilities at Holsted Lystanlæg can be used free of charge.

Architectural Heritage and History in the Town

As a railway town, Holsted is architecturally characterised by monumental buildings from the 1920s in the Bedre Byggeskik style. Holsted Posthus dates from 1925, Vejen Bank from 1920 and Teknisk Skole from 1923. The old Vandtårnet i Holsted was built in 1925 according to plans by the architect Mikkel Thomsen. The water tower is 15 m high and is no longer in use.

The history of the town goes back even further. Holsted Kirkeby originated as a ford across the Holsted Å. The original Holsted developed around the old post house, the old mill and the Tinghus from 1845, all of which are located on the Holsted Å. Holsted Kirke is situated directly beside the river. In 1950, stained-glass windows with biblical motifs were installed in its three chancel windows, created by Kræsten Iversen (1886–1955). The church replaced an older, dilapidated village church in 1886; it stood approximately 800 m farther west.

For motorsport enthusiasts, the Moldow Speedway Arena is one of Holsted’s notable destinations. It is the home track of the professional Holsted Tigers team of Holsted Speedway Klub and lies immediately south of Holsted Stationsby.
