Harbour, Urban History and Museums

Lemvig Harbour is located in the heart of the town. Gastronomic, shopping and cultural offerings come together there; the Krabbefestival in August or September is mentioned as a seasonal event. A special connection between the railway station and the harbour is the BjergBanen. It runs along the old harbour railway for around 15 minutes between the two points, bringing a part of the town’s history to life along the way.

At the Lemvig Museum, the exhibition “Lemvig Købstads historie” covers the history of Lemvig from the Middle Ages to the present day, as well as the relationship between the market town and its surrounding area. Walks with Different Themes

The “I Gantriis' Fodspor” route is ideal for discovering the town. The 2.7-kilometre walk leads to 17 marked stops through Lemvig’s historic and urban environments. These include old buildings, inn lanes, the church square, shopping streets, the Kærlighedssti, densely built-up lanes and the harbour. Those who prefer to travel with maps and additional stories can find ten walks in Lemvig town in the municipality’s hiking booklet. It contains stories about the town’s past and present, as well as detailed maps and overview maps of the public paths.

The Planetstien leads from the centre of Lemvig to Gjellerodde and depicts the solar system at a scale of 1:1 billion. The planets are shown from the Sun to Pluto. At the Skulpturstien, a sculpture installation comprises 54 works by sculptor Torvald Westergaard (1901–1988). The route also leads to a staircase with 177 steps and views over the town of Lemvig and the harbour. For a longer loop, the 6.1-kilometre Hjertestien leads through forests and open meadows to the Limfjord. It begins and ends at Lemvig Sø. The Lemvig Sødal area is a tunnel valley formed by meltwater during the last Ice Age around 20,000 to 30,000 years ago, stretching from the town to the flat heathlands in the south. Around Lemvig Sødal there are marked hiking routes measuring 4.5 or 6 kilometres in length.

In the interactive exhibition, children and adults explore climate challenges and solutions through games, technology and activities. Lemvig remains culturally active in the evening, too: films are shown daily at Biohuset Lemvig, normally at 17:30 and 20:00.
