Holiday apartments in Hedensted: Nature, Water and Museums

Hedensted combines expansive natural and aquatic landscapes with museums, historic trails and unique cultural experiences. Uldum Kær is an inland marsh covering approximately 1,200 hectares on the Gudenå between Uldum and Tørring. Around 1,050 hectares of this area belong to Natura 2000 site no. 77. The habitats found there include, among others, those of the western marsh harrier, kingfisher, brook lamprey and Eurasian otter.

Nature

Uldum Kær can be explored on hiking and cycling trails. Bridges cross the Gudenå, birdwatching towers offer views of the landscape, and a canoe launch provides access to the Gudenå. On the river, you can canoe from Tørring to Randers. Canoes for the Gudenå route can be rented from approved rental providers.

The Hedensted Lakes form a recreational area with seven lakes; a hiking trail of approximately 4 kilometres runs around them. Swimming is permitted in the larger lakes, while the water quality is continuously monitored. The publicly accessible Palsgaard Castle Park covers 31 hectares. It includes six smaller lakes as well as numerous rare trees and plants.

Culture

Glud Museum is an open-air museum with 19 historic buildings and historic gardens. It offers guided tours on the history of rural life from the 17th century onwards and organises historic walks in Hedensted Municipality. Hjortsvang Museum presents historic buildings and interiors associated with family life from 1850 to 1950. Around ten events for adults, families and children take place there throughout the year.

Danmarks Ferguson Museum preserves a unique agricultural and industrial heritage from 1919 to the present day. At the same time, it displays the world's largest collection of Ferguson tractors and implements. Almost every year since 1972, Palsgaard Sommerspil has staged a new musical production. Uldum Mill produces exclusively organic flour products.

The Juelsminde Harbour Museum traces the development from a small fishing village into an active harbour town and also covers the former ferry connection to Zealand. Visitors can operate a ship simulator there.

Trails and Water

The coastal trail between Snaptun and Juelsminde is a 22-kilometre coastal hike. In Tofteskoven near Juelsminde, there is a 4-kilometre MTB singletrack with a limited level of difficulty. Juelsminde Nature Playground offers play, entertainment, games and relaxation for active children and people of all ages.

The ferry to Hjarnø departs from Snaptun Harbour. In addition to the trails along the coast and the aquatic landscapes on the Gudenå, this provides connections to another destination on the water within the region's transport network.
