The central Crucifixion scene in the altarpiece dates from the late 15th century and from the Catholic period.

The present appearance of Svanninge Church was designed by Professor Hetsch. When it was rededicated in 1838, the church appeared as a cruciform church with a tall, shingle-covered spire.
