A 37-hectare protected area was established around the church and east of Nylars in 1987. This is particularly interesting for travelers who take protected landscapes into account when choosing a destination.

Cycling

Nylars is located on the road between Rønne and Aakirkeby. A cycle path now runs along the former route of the Rønne–Nexø railway from Robbedale to east of Lobbæk.

Culture

The Nylars Round Church was built around 1160 and is considered by Visit Bornholm to be the best-preserved of Bornholm’s four round churches. It is therefore particularly appealing to travelers who want to discover medieval architecture.

The church served both religious and defensive purposes. Its upper levels were used to observe the surrounding area and served as a refuge during times of unrest.

Inside, there are Romanesque frescoes from the 12th century, which are among the best-preserved on Bornholm.

Visit Bornholm presents Bornholm’s whitewashed round churches as a characteristic attraction of the island; one of the four is located in Nylars.

Antoinette is located in the surrounding area of Nylars. Bornholm is also located in the surrounding area of Nylars.

The wider regional surroundings of Nylars include Sorte Gryde, Hammershus, Hullehavn, Solomons Kapel, Sankt Povls Kirke and Rutskirke.
