Kovářov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kovářovsko offers a pleasantly hilly landscape with numerous hills and forests. Many ponds and small pools contribute to a diverse range of plant and animal life. The area around Kovářov also features remarkable rock formations and erratic boulders in a variety of shapes.

Nature and Trails

The Kovářovsko educational trail comprises three routes with a total length of 50 km and 21 stops. The stops focus on the folk traditions of Kovářovsko and invite visitors to get to know the surrounding area.

Discoveries

The “Discover Kovářovsko” geolocation game guides visitors through 56 interesting places using an interactive mobile application and provides information, photos, illustrations, maps and tasks. After downloading the application, the game can be played offline. The game can be started at any selected location; the individual stages can be played in any order, interrupted at any time and continued later.

The Zeměráj adventure park can be reached from Kovářov on foot via a yellow-marked trail measuring 2 km. The 9-hectare site features an open-air museum with an early medieval village, a one-kilometre barefoot trail, a bird trail, archaeological and palaeontological sites, a large labyrinth, a children's play village, a water playground, an interactive games world and an archery range. Zeměráj also offers more than 100 games as well as entertaining, educational and adventurous tasks and puzzles, including the “Treasure Hunt” (“Cesta za pokladem”), the orientation game “Hlaholam” and the search games “Kamene času” and “Klenoty přírody”.

The “Kde domov můj” cycling route passes through Kovářov, where it runs along Roads 1154 and 1156, among others. The Zeměráj adventure park can be reached via a detour.

Culture and History

In the centre of Kovářov, at the north-western corner of the village square, stands the single-nave Gothic Church of All Saints. It forms an important urban element and is considered the oldest monument in Kovářov. The Church of All Saints was already a parish church in 1220.

The old Baroque vicarage in Kovářov dates from 1739 and has a mansard roof typical of buildings on the Orlík estate. The Calvary sculptural group is also among the most significant historical monuments in Kovářov. The village is also home to a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from the workshop of the sculptor Brokoff.

Kovářovsko belongs to the ethnographic region of Kozácko, also known as Táborsko-Milevsko. Kovářovskétradice.cz preserves and presents folk songs, dances, customs, costumes, theatrical activities and selected traditional crafts.

Events

The South Bohemian Kovářov Folklore Festival was founded in 1996 and takes place annually around the transition from May to June. South Bohemian folklore ensembles perform there, along with guests from other ethnographic regions of the Czech Republic and from abroad. The visitor programme includes a folk market, craft workshops and tastings of Old Bohemian cuisine.

At an open day held by the House of Regional and Children's Folklore Traditions in Kovářov, visitors could access exhibitions on children's costumes, children's customs and processions, as well as blacksmithing, a video kiosk with a mobile application, a photo gallery, information materials and a children's corner in the rooms of the Baroque vicarage.
