Culture

The Parish Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zavojane is included in the register of protected immovable cultural heritage of the Vrgorac area. The church was built in 1712 from hewn stone; its square apse has a Gothic vault. The main altar features a painting of the Virgin Mary with the Child from 1847 by Ivan Skvarčina.

The ruined Ančić Tower in the Kasaba area above the hamlet of Ančići is also part of the history of the village. During Ottoman rule, it belonged to the Cukarinović family. The tower had a ground floor, two upper floors and an attic. The outlines of its massive walls and several openings can still be seen beneath the vegetation.

Traditions

The traditional two-day Mala Gospa fair in Zavojane features traditional crafts, local products and roast lamb. Mala Gospa is traditionally celebrated there as a two-day event on the eve of the feast and on the feast day. The religious fair is associated with 7 and 8 September.

Hiking and Landscape

The hiking route to Sveti Mihovil begins in Podastine, which is reached via Zavojane. There is no water source on the ascent, so water must be brought along before setting out. From Sveti Mihovil, the view extends towards Biokovo.
