Rogozen: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Rogozen Treasure is described as the largest collection of Thracian toreutic works. It was produced over several decades in the 5th century and the first half of the 4th century BC. In the vicinity of Rogozen, the treasure is displayed at the Regional History Museum in Vratsa in the form of 165 silver vessels decorated with gilding. It was also assembled by several generations of local Thracian kings as a dynastic family treasure.

Culture and History

The Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Rogozen is recorded as having been built in 1876 and consecrated in 1882. West of Rogozen, the Turkish Fountain site contains the remains of a Thracian-Roman settlement that was inhabited from the 2nd to the 4th century. The Turek site contains the remains of a large Thracian Iron Age settlement, as well as a preserved bronze helmet belonging to a Thracian warrior.

Traditions

The Prosveshta community center in Rogozen maintains groups for women’s singing, Christmas caroling, brass music, children’s dancing, Roma dancing, and theater. The Trifonovden tradition in Rogozen includes vine pruning, led by a chosen King of the Vineyards wearing a wreath made of vine branches. Traditionally, the Christmas carolers visit homes at night, singing songs and receiving Christmas bread and money.

Nature

The local landscape includes the Barata stream, the Birzina watercourse with willow-lined banks, and the Rogozen Reservoir. It was built and commissioned in 1960 on the Maloradsko–Rogozyanska River in the Batlan area. Its flooded area covers 442,000 square meters; it is used by anglers as well as by visitors interested in the waterside landscape. The reservoirs in the Rogozen area are described as suitable for recreational fishing.
