Zlataritsa lies in the foothills of the Balkan Mountains. The municipality of Obshtina Zlataritsa is characterised by low and medium-height hills, while flatter terrain extends to the north. Culture and History
Zlataritsa has two museums of local history that are of local significance. The Zlataritsa Town Museum presents the development of the settlement from its foundation to the present day. The ethnographic exhibition displays tools, work equipment, traditional costumes and other objects representing the local ethnic communities.
The Church of Saint Nicholas in Zlataritsa is designated as a cultural monument. The church's stated features include frescoes, icons and its architectural style. A Roman road to Tsarigrad runs south of Zlataritsa. The houses from the Bulgarian National Revival period have a distinct local character associated with Bulgarian handicrafts.
Since 1992, national prizes for literary criticism have been awarded in Zlataritsa every two years. A community centre in Zlataritsa is one of seven municipal centres that preserve and further develop traditional Bulgarian folk arts. Three settlement mounds near Zlataritsa originated in the Middle Neolithic and continued to exist during the Early and Middle Chalcolithic.
Festivals and Cuisine
The traditional “Gardeners' Soup Day” takes place at the beginning of September in the locality of Chernichkite in Zlataritsa. The event combines the preparation of soup outdoors with music, songs, dances and customs. In November, Zlataritsa hosts the “Day of Folk Foods – Pickles and Rakia”, which includes competitions for homemade pickles and homemade rakia.
Gardeners' soup is a characteristic dish of Zlataritsa; historically, it was associated with welcoming and saying farewell to travelling gardeners. The local gardeners' soup is prepared with garden vegetables such as carrots, courgettes, potatoes, peppers and onions.
The municipality also includes Hotal Bunar Winery in Gorsko Novo Selo, where on-site wine tastings are offered.
