Turia: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

“Starci v Turia” is listed as an annual national festival of masquerade games in Turia. The 2024 programme included the spectacle “Zagovavane”, in which performers from Turia’s community presented evening ritual practices associated with regional Kuker games.

Culture

A permanent exhibition is located in Turia’s Nashentsi Hall. The Chudomir House in Turia was declared an immovable cultural heritage site of national significance in 1998. It presents exhibitions on the life and work of the writer and artist, featuring original manuscripts, personal documents, photographs, facsimiles, objects and an art gallery.

The house was reconstructed in its original appearance based on detailed descriptions and sketches of the former rooms. The village museum of Turia, located in the Chitalishte Chudomir, displays household objects, children’s drawings of Kukers and authentic Kuker masks.

According to local accounts, Turia’s Sirni-Sagovezni traditions include Kuker games, songs, dances and communal bathing in the river.

Nature and trails

Yarat is a protected site with earth pyramids of various shapes formed by erosion; some of them reach up to 10 metres in height. Pirostiya near Turia is a Thracian sanctuary consisting of three upright stones and a fourth stone laid across them like a tripod.

A marked trail of approximately 1.5 kilometres each way leads to Pirostiya from the stone bridge at the exit of Turia. Access to Yarat is subject to a warning: the path along the site is not secured.
